Almost That Time of Year is Shannon Kennedy's fourth album featuring original Christmas songs as well as traditional Christmas hymns and contemporary holiday songs. Almost That Time of Year also debuts Kennedy as a vocalist on Almost That Time of Year, the title track, Greatest Gift, and Santa Baby. The album truly exhibits her growth as a performer, musician, composer, and producer since her last last album, Never My Love.
The album also features several artists well known in the smooth jazz industry including Special EFX guitarist and band leader, Chieli Minucci, on Carol of the Bells. Greg Adams, from Tower of Power appears with Shannon on Baby It's Cold Outside, lending his sensitive trumpet playing to accompany Shannon on soprano saxophone. Peter White also joins Shannon on a few songs on the record including playing piano on River and Baby It's Cold Outside. Chicago's sultry guitarist, Nick Colionne, also plays on Santa Baby.
