Almost That Time of Year is a collection of original and classic Christmas tunes with a contemporary twist. Almost That Time of Year debuts Kennedy’s skills as a vocalist in addition to her already established saxophone and flute playing. The album includes two of her own original Christmas songs in addition to a collection of traditional carols and contemporary seasonal music such as Joni Mitchell’s River and Michael Bolton’s Our Love is Like a Holiday. Almost That Time of Year also debuts Kennedy as a vocalist on Almost That Time of Year, the title track, Greatest Gift, and Santa Baby.

The album also features several artists well known in the smooth jazz industry including Special EFX guitarist and band leader, Chieli Minucci, on Carol of the Bells. Greg Adams, from Tower of Power appears with Shannon on Baby It’s Cold Outside, lending his sensitive trumpet playing to accompany Shannon on soprano saxophone. Peter White also joins Shannon on a few songs on the record including playing piano on River and Baby It’s Cold Outside. Chicago’s sultry guitarist, Nick Colionne, also plays on Santa Baby. 

Almost That Time of Year exemplifies Kennedy’s growth and skill as a producer, musician, and recording artist, it is an excellent addition to any music collection.
